If you are interested in learning more about population health and equity, check out these sessions at the 2021 AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo.

Monday

32224 Strategies for Enhancement of Laboratory Medicine in Africa

This Scientific Session will provide a platform to discuss practical pathways to enhance laboratory medicine in general with a focus on resource limited settings through the education, training, and assessment of methods for sustainability. Learn more.

32442 Connective Tissue Diseases, Lupus, and dsDNA Testing: Updates in Diagnosis and Testing

This Scientific Session will use a case-based approach to review current laboratory testing and clinical presentation to diagnose connective tissue diseases with an emphasis on systemic lupus erythematosus. We will use an interactive format to share the results of a multicenter dsDNA antibody comparison of classical and recent techniques with correlation to clinical disease status. Learn more.

Tuesday

33107 Exploring Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities through a Laboratory Medicine Lens

Racial and ethnic minorities experience a higher burden of illness and death compared to the United States population as a whole. This Scientific Session will discuss racial and ethnic health disparities that are pertinent to laboratory medicine and discuss how laboratorians can participate in eliminating these inequities. Learn more.

13001 The Remarkable Journey from Bench to Bedside Changing Lives for Individuals with Cystic Fibrosis

The barriers to development of novel therapies in rare genetic diseases are often daunting due to small patient numbers, limited funding, and lack of clear biomarkers or clinical outcomes required to attract industry. Approaches to overcoming some of these barriers will be discussed. Learn more.

Thursday

35103 Laboratories Ally with Clinicians in Mitigating the Burden of Heart Disease from Childhood

Cardiovascular risk management in childhood is key to lifetime risk reduction. This Scientific Session reviews the 2019 American Heart Association statement on risk reduction in high-risk pediatric patients, addresses the role of the laboratory in this campaign, and updates the audience on the utility of new generation cardiac markers in this patient population. Learn more.

35101 Emerging Areas in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring: Antifungals, Direct Oral Anticoagulants, and Psychoactive Drugs

Therapeutic drug monitoring is useful for drugs with narrow therapeutic ranges. However, each year there is a growing list of additional drugs that may benefit from therapeutic drug monitoring. In this Scientific Session, we will discuss emerging opportunities for therapeutic drug monitoring to positively impact patient care. Learn more.
